If you’ve ever tipped your loose change onto the table and wondered “Could this actually be worth something?”, you’re not alone. From elusive 50ps to modern error coins and historic first-issue banknotes, some of the UK’s most exciting collectibles are still hiding in everyday change.
Of course, there’s no single, definitive price when it comes to valuing coins and banknotes. But one of the best ways to get a realistic idea is by looking at what collectors are actually paying on the secondary market.
We’ve analysed recent completed listings to uncover how the most sought-after UK coins and banknotes are performing today – so you don’t have to scroll endlessly through auction pages yourself.
eBay Tracker Update
W for World Wide Web 10p
The A–Z of Great Britain 10p series has been a collector favourite since its debut in 2018, but one coin stands above the rest when it comes to scarcity.
The 2019 “W” for World Wide Web 10p has the lowest mintage of the entire series, at just 63,000 coins.
Our February eBay Tracker shows a median selling price of around £7, representing a 49% increase since our previous update. For a coin with a face value of just 10p, that’s an extraordinary jump – and a powerful reminder that even the smallest change can be a hidden treasure.
The First King Charles III Banknotes
The first King Charles III banknotes officially entered circulation on 5 June 2024. As the very first notes to feature the new monarch, they mark a major moment in British numismatic history – and have attracted strong collector interest from day one.
The standout performer this month is the King Charles III £10 note, which has seen its median selling price rise by over 50% since our last update, an impressive increase in a relatively short space of time. That rise reflects more than short-term interest. As a first-issue note tied to a once-in-a-generation change in British coinage and banknotes, the King Charles III £10 is already proving itself as a key modern collectible – and one that many collectors are keen to secure for their collections.
Undated 20p
Few coins capture collector imagination quite like the Undated 20p. With no official mintage figure and ongoing mystery surrounding how many escaped into circulation, it has achieved near-legendary status.
According to our latest eBay Tracker, the Undated 20p has seen an increase in value. The median selling price now sits at £49.99, up £5.94 since our last report.
If you’ve been waiting for the “right moment” to add one to your collection, demand suggests the Undated 20p isn’t losing its appeal anytime soon.
2023 Salmon 50p
The 2023 Salmon 50p cemented its place in numismatic history when it was officially confirmed as the rarest UK 50p in circulation, with a mintage of just 200,000 – edging out the iconic Kew Gardens by 10,000 coins.
Since our last update, prices have cooled, with the median selling price dropping by around 40% to sit at £38. Even so, that’s nearly 80 times face value, which is an impressive return for a coin you could still spot in your change.
Kew Gardens 50p
The iconic 2009 Kew Gardens 50p may have lost its “rarest 50p” title, but it’s still one of the most sought-after coins in circulation.
According to our latest data, Kew Gardens 50ps are selling for around £110 on the secondary market. That’s only a modest 7% dip since our last update and further proof that this iconic 50p continues to hold its appeal with collectors.
2002 Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games £2
With a circulating mintage of just 485,500, the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games £2 remains the rarest £2 coin in circulation – yet it’s often overshadowed by flashier designs.
After more than two decades in circulation, many examples have already found permanent homes in collections. Those that do surface on eBay are currently selling for around £31, a £3.10 decrease since our last update, but still excellent value for such a scarce coin.
Valuation Index
Using the total price of the coins and banknotes tracked, the Valuation Index follows the rise and fall of their overall value, measured in points against the baseline set in January 2017.
Since our last update in August 2025, the Top 10 coins and banknotes on the eBay Tracker have seen an overall 11% decrease in value, reflecting recent shifts in the secondary market. Even so, many of these coins are still achieving prices far beyond their original face value – proving that hidden treasures could still be sitting in your spare change.

Do you have a rare coin or banknote in your collection and often wonder ‘how much could it be worth?’ Whilst there’s no definitive answer when valuing coins, you can take a look on the secondary market to get a ballpark figure.

In June 2024, we made some changes to the coins and banknotes we track, to make sure we’re looking at the most sought-after ones right now. You might notice that your favourite coin or banknote that we’ve tracked in the past is missing, but you can always check out our previous eBay Tracker updates to see how their value has changed over time.
eBay Tracker
** UPDATE 22/09/25 **
It’s now been announced that a further 8.84 million 2025 Bee £1 coins are being released into circulation, meaning it’ll actually have a circulating mintage of 9,010,000. This eBay Tracker was published before the announcement and therefore refers to the 2025 Bee £1 as the rarest £1 in circulation.
2025 Bee £1
Following the announcement in August 2025 that the 2025 dated Bee £1 coin had an initial circulating mintage of just 170,000 – we temporarily added it to our eBay Tracker. Since then, it’s been announced that 8.84 million more 2025 Bee £1 coins have entered circulation, giving more collectors the chance to find one!
The median selling price for 2025 Bee £1 coins sold after the announcement on 20th August 2025 was £12.90, a 30% increase from those sold before the news.

2023 Salmon 50p
It’s been almost a year since we heard that we have a new rarest UK 50p in circulation – the 2023 Salmon 50p! In October 2024, it was announced that the 2023 Salmon 50p had a mintage of just 200,000, 10,000 less than the previous rarest 50p – the 2009 Kew Gardens 50p.
Despite the 2023 Salmon 50p now being the rarest UK 50p in circulation, it appears that some of the excitement around it has faded since our last eBay Tracker update, as the median selling price has fallen by 23%.
Kew Gardens 50p
Now the second rarest UK 50p in circulation, a 2009 Kew Gardens 50p can set you back around £120 on the secondary market, which is a 16% decrease since our last update – but still a great return on a 50p coin!
Undated 20p
When it comes to coins that many collectors dream to find in their change, the Undated 20p is right at the top of the list. With no official mintage figure and the mystery of just how many slipped into circulation, this little error coin has become legendary!
In this eBay Tracker, the median selling price sits at £44, which is actually £19.95 lower than our last update. So, if you’ve been holding out to secure one for your collection, now might be the perfect time to swoop in and secure one before prices creep back up.
2002 N Ireland Commonwealth Games £2
Just like the Kew Gardens 50p, the rarest £2 coin in circulation – the 2002 Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland £2 – is one of the hardest coins to find in the wild, but often gets overlooked. With a circulating mintage of just 485,500, it’s one of the rarest coins out there, but having been in circulation for over 23 years, a large percentage of them have most likely been snapped up by collectors already.
Those that are willing to part with theirs are asking for around £34 on the secondary market, which is a £2.41 increase since our last update.

Using the total price of the coins and banknotes tracked, the Valuation Index follows the rise and fall of their overall value, measured in points against the baseline set in January 2017.
Since the last update in December 2024, there’s been a 13% overall decrease in the value of the Top 11 coins and banknotes on the eBay Tracker. With secondary market prices falling, now might be the time to pick up one of these coveted coins or banknotes for your collection!

The Salmon 50p makes waves in our December 2024 eBay Tracker update!
So you’ve found a rare coin or banknote in your change and are wondering ‘how much could it be worth?’ It’s difficult to determine a coin’s value as the secondary market can be a bit of a minefield, so we’ve done the hard work for you with our eBay Tracker!

eBay Tracker
Since our last update, there’s been one major change to the collecting world – the announcement that we now have a NEW rarest UK 50p! It was revealed in October 2024 that the 2023 Salmon 50p had a circulating mintage of just 200,000, meaning it knocks the 2009 Kew Gardens 50p off the top spot!
2023 Salmon 50p
An estimated 500,000 Salmon 50ps entered circulation in November 2023, however, collectors were finding them hard to come by. Later, in October 2024, it was announced that the official mintage figure was just 200,000 – 10,000 less than the Kew Gardens 50p! This meant that for the first time in 15 years, we had a new rarest UK 50p!
We added the Salmon 50p to our eBay Tracker back in June 2024 as it was one of the newest coins to enter circulation. Back then you could get your hands on one on the secondary market for under £15, however now that we know just how rare it is, it’s selling for around £85 – that’s a 477% increase on average!
Kew Gardens 50p
Now the second rarest 50p in circulation, the Kew Gardens 50p can still fetch hefty amounts on the secondary market. Don’t forget, it’s had 15 years to stake its claim as the pinnacle of collecting, so even though it’s no longer the rarest in terms of mintage, the Kew Gardens 50p is still incredibly sought after.
The average secondary market value for a Kew Gardens 50p has decreased by £3 since our last update, but you’d still be looking to pay nearly £150 for one – that’s 300 times its face value!
Undated 20p
The undated 20p is often thought of as the ‘holy grail of change collecting’, as it’s not been confirmed just how many of these error coins made it into circulation. As one of the most sought-after coins, it’s at the top of many collectors’ wish lists, and some are willing to pay up to £64 to get their hands on one.
That’s a 28% increase since our last eBay Tracker update in June 2024, so it’s definitely worth checking your 20ps!
W (World Wide Web) 10p
The A-Z of Great Britain 10p series was first issued in 2018, with a 10p representing something quintessentially British for each letter of the alphabet. A second wave of these 10ps was issued in 2019, and out of all of them, the 2019 W for World Wide Web 10p has the lowest mintage figure of just 63,000!
According to our eBay Tracker, you can expect to pay around £6 for a W 10p on the secondary market, which is a 33% increase since our last update. Not a bad return on a 10p coin!
The first ever King Charles III Banknotes
The first ever King Charles III banknotes entered circulation on 5th June 2024, and as they’ll only be issued to replace worn or damaged Queen Elizabeth II going forward, they’ve inevitably become extremely sought after by collectors.
Whilst the median selling price for a King Charles III £10 banknote has remained essentially the same since our last eBay Tracker update, a King Charles III £5 will cost you 61% less than 6 months ago. If you’re missing a King Charles III £5 note from your collection, now might be a good time to get one on the secondary market for under £10.
