This brand new coin follows the design of the first definitive £2, the Technology £2. But eagle-eyed collectors will spot some very special features on this new issue…
25 years of our bi-metallic £2 celebrated with a new lenticular feature
In the centre of the original Technology £2, you’ll see the central lenticular area transform from four separate scrolls into eight intertwined scrolls, representing the Iron Age.
But, instead of eight scrolls, this re-issued bi-metallic £2 reveals the number ‘25’ when tilted – a clever way of celebrating the anniversary!
Last QEII Commemorative Bi-Metallic £2
The 25th anniversary of the £2 coin is confirmed to be the last UK commemorative bi-metallic £2 coin which features an effigy of Her Late Majesty.
This is sure to make this coin even more sought-after, as collectors rush to find the last UK coins with Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait on them.
Special dual-date
As well as the unique lenticular feature, this brand new £2 also features a special dual-date.
Featuring the original 1997 date on the reverse, and the 2022 date on the obverse, this coin becomes one of just a handful of UK coins to have a dual-date on its design.
Special Privy Mark
The obverse not only features Jody Clark’s QEII portrait, but also includes a special privy mark in the form of the central Iron Age circle.

The Scarcest Bi-metallic £2 coins
Plenty of popular bi-metallic £2 coin designs have gone into circulation since 1997, but the most scarce £2 coin is the 2002 Commonwealth Games NI £2.
With a mintage figure of just 485,500, this coin is particularly hard to spot in your change. Find out more about this coin here >>
£2 ‘errors’
You may also spot £2 ‘errors’ in your change too, although these are very rare. They can occur when striking the bi-metallic coins, which has a very specific process. If you’d like to learn more about error and mis-strike coins, click here >>

Hi I need some help I have a Skull and rose £2 coin with defects on the skull and also the outer part of the silver is also defective can anybody help to determine if it is valuable
Hi
I have been collecting coins for a long time now and I have enjoyed every minute of it, until this year
it seems that far too many coins are coming out far too quickly, I wish I stuck to just the circulated coins but no I had to chase all the dates which was fine until I tried to get the opposite edge inscriptions on the £2 coins, it took a lot of doing but I got there until now with the new effigy set, that’s going to be a nightmare to get, I just bought the anniversary £2 and the anniversary effigy set but yet to get the opposites, now here’s a coincidence for you, there are 97 different £2 coins, double that if you also collect the inscriptions, I bought the privy mark 20p a had the complete set until the new anniversary set came out and so on, so now I will have to change how I collect, so watch how you collect. and just enjoy it.
Happy Christmas everyone.
Love the articles on Web but would love to see pictures of coins on website updated more often

Best,

On ur website https://www.changechecker.org/2021/12/16/upcoming-2022-coin-releases-what-we-know-so-far/ u stated that there were to be 14 re issues of the 25th anniversary £2 but the royal mint only released 1. The technology 1997 bi metallic £2. Very disappointed in Royal mint. How did u know about the info on the release of the 14 re issues
Hi Neil,
The Royal Mint had suggested that they may issue a set of £2 coins if collector demand was there. This was confirmed in a Royal Proclamation at the end of last year.
However, we think this special definitive £2 re-issue was a stunning alternative option. It’s got two special features, which both pay tribute to an incredible 25 years of our beloved bi-metallic £2 coin.
Thanks,
Alex
